5-day Nha Trang and Da Lat itinerary: how to split 4 nights between the two cities
A 5-day, 4-night trip works best with two nights in Nha Trang for a full beach day, followed by two nights in Da Lat for the city and nearby countryside. If you only have four days, you can still visit both destinations, but you'll need to keep sightseeing to a minimum.

Nha Trang and Da Lat are about 134-140 km apart via National Highway 27C, and the trip usually takes 4-5 hours when road conditions are good. For an independent trip, you only need to change hotels once: spend one or two nights in Nha Trang, then continue to Da Lat for another two nights. Five days and four nights is the most comfortable option, although four days and three nights can work if your arrival and departure times are convenient.

Should you visit Nha Trang or Da Lat first?
Starting in Nha Trang and finishing in Da Lat is usually the better choice, especially if you can fly into Cam Ranh International Airport and fly home from Lien Khuong Airport.
This route makes sense for most trips lasting four to six days. You arrive at the coast, settle into your hotel, enjoy the beach, and then travel uphill to Da Lat. The final days can be spent walking around the lake, visiting coffee shops, and exploring the pine-covered countryside before heading to the airport.
The main advantage: no drive back down from Da Lat to Nha Trang just to catch your return flight.
When should you start in Nha Trang?
Choose Nha Trang first when:
- Your flight lands at Cam Ranh before noon, leaving time to reach the city and enjoy the beach on your first day.
- You want to swim, take an island tour, or visit VinWonders before heading into the cooler mountains.
- You're traveling with family and would rather not start a mountain-road journey immediately after a flight.
- You can find a suitable return flight from Lien Khuong Airport.
Cam Ranh International Airport is approximately 35 km from central Nha Trang. The drive normally takes 45-60 minutes.

After collecting your luggage and checking into your hotel, you should still have time for lunch, a rest, and a walk along the beach around 4 PM. At the other end of the trip, Lien Khuong Airport is roughly 30 km from central Da Lat. Allow around 40-60 minutes for the drive, plus the time needed for airport check-in and security.
Lien Khuong Airport resumed operations on August 19, 2026, following runway renovation work. However, flight availability and schedules still need to be checked for your specific travel dates.
When should you start in Da Lat?
Starting in Da Lat makes more sense if you find a morning flight into Lien Khuong and a late return flight from Cam Ranh. You can spend your first two nights in the highlands, travel down to Nha Trang on the third day, and finish your holiday by the sea.
This direction is also worth considering for groups of friends who would rather end their trip with swimming, seafood, and a hotel pool. The driving distance is essentially the same in either direction. How well the intercity bus timetable fits your flights decides it.
Is it worth booking a round-trip flight to Cam Ranh?
Only if the savings on airfare are large enough to justify the extra journey. Returning from Da Lat to Cam Ranh means setting aside another half-day for road travel, potentially longer during heavy rain or roadworks.
On a four-day trip, this return journey takes up too much of your available time. It becomes more manageable on a six-day holiday, although you should still reserve the final part of your trip for transportation.
How many days do you need for Nha Trang and Da Lat?
Every combined beach-and-mountain trip has one unavoidable time commitment: nearly half a day to travel between Nha Trang and Da Lat. That makes the number of nights in each city more important than the total number of attractions on your itinerary.
| Trip length | Nha Trang | Da Lat | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 days, 3 nights | 1 night | 2 nights | Couples and friends with limited time |
| 5 days, 4 nights | 2 nights | 2 nights | First-time visitors and families |
| 6 days, 5 nights | 3 nights | 2 nights | Beach lovers who want a full island-tour day |
| 6 days, 5 nights | 2 nights | 3 nights | Travelers interested in cafes, mountain scenery, and Da Lat's countryside |
Four days and three nights: accept that your time in Nha Trang will be limited to an afternoon and a morning. Don't try to squeeze in a full-day island tour and then travel to Da Lat late that night.
Five days and four nights: each city gets at least one complete day. You'll have time for the beach, sightseeing, meals, and rest without constantly changing hotels.
Six days and five nights: add an extra night to whichever destination interests you more. In Nha Trang, use it for an island tour. In Da Lat, spend it around Tuyen Lam Lake or the countryside.
Families with young children should generally choose five or six days. Couples and groups of friends can manage four days, provided their flights don't use up most of the first and last days.
Nha Trang and Da Lat itinerary: 4 days, 3 nights
This itinerary assumes you arrive at Cam Ranh Airport on the first morning and depart from Lien Khuong Airport on the afternoon of day four. You'll spend one night in Nha Trang and two nights in Da Lat.

- Po Nagar Cham Towers: Northern part of the city
- Nha Trang Tourist Port: 388 Vo Thi Sau Street
- Xuan Huong Lake: Central Da Lat
- Da Lat Market: First evening
- Datanla Waterfall: Prenn Pass direction, roughly 5-6 km from the center
- Tuyen Lam Lake: Pairs with Datanla in one day
- Lien Khuong Airport: Roughly 30 km from central Da Lat
Day 1: arrive in Nha Trang, fish noodle soup, Tran Phu Beach
- 9 AM-11 AM
Arrive at Cam Ranh and travel to Nha Trang
After collecting your luggage, take an airport bus or arrange a private transfer to the Tran Phu area.
VinBus route 16-2 connects Cam Ranh Airport with Nha Trang. The 2026 fare is VND 50,000 per person, one way. The airport pickup point is around columns 8-9, and the route runs along Nguyen Tat Thanh and Tran Phu streets.
If you're traveling with young children, carrying two large suitcases, or arriving during the hottest part of the day, a car that takes you directly to your hotel will be more convenient. For a group of four, ask for a total transfer price before booking. Compare it with the combined bus fares and any additional taxi costs from the bus stop to your accommodation.
Choose a hotel near Tran Phu, Hung Vuong, or Nguyen Thien Thuat streets. These areas have plenty of restaurants, are within reach of the beach, and make it easier to arrange transportation the following morning.
- 11:30 AM-2:30 PM
Lunch, hotel check-in, and rest
For a local lunch, consider Bun Ca Nguyen Loan at 123 Ngo Gia Tu Street. The restaurant serves Vietnamese fish noodle soup and jellyfish noodle soup and opens 5 AM-10 PM. In 2026, a bowl costs approximately VND 30,000-45,000, depending on the dish and extras.
After lunch, return to your hotel to check in or leave your luggage. Avoid scheduling a long outdoor walk around midday, especially during the hotter months.

- 3:30 PM-6 PM
Tran Phu Beach or Po Nagar Cham Towers
If relaxation is your priority, head to Tran Phu Beach. Around 4 PM, the temperature is generally more comfortable for a walk, beach photos, or swimming when sea conditions are safe.
For a little sightseeing, you could instead visit Po Nagar Cham Towers in the northern part of the city. This historic Cham temple complex opens 6:00 AM-5:30 PM (some places list a 6 PM close), tickets cost VND 30,000, and it is suitable for a relatively short visit that doesn't require an entire afternoon.
Choose one of these activities rather than both. After a flight and the transfer from Cam Ranh, an overcrowded first-day schedule is rarely worthwhile.

- 6:30 PM-9 PM
Dinner and an evening walk
You can have seafood in the city, then walk along Tran Phu Street or around 2/4 Square. When ordering seafood by weight, check the price per kilogram, ask whether the seafood is weighed before or after preparation, and confirm any cooking charges in advance. Overnight in Nha Trang.
Day 2: Nha Trang, Khanh Le Pass, Da Lat
This is the most important travel day of your itinerary.
- 6:30 AM-7:30 AM
Breakfast and check-out
Have breakfast near your hotel and double-check the pickup time for your intercity bus. Don't schedule a distant attraction this morning. A delayed checkout, a late taxi to the pickup point, or a missed shuttle connection can push back your arrival in Da Lat.
- 8 AM-12:30 PM
Travel to Da Lat
A bus departing around 8-9 AM is a good choice. A straight run takes about 3-4 hours, so allow approximately 4-5 hours for the whole journey, including pickup, drop-off, and any stops, and 5-6 hours or more with roadworks or rain.
The usual route follows National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass when the road is open to traffic. Don't treat the arrival time shown in a map application as guaranteed. Road repairs and poor weather can affect the schedule.
- 1 PM-3 PM
Check in and have lunch
In Da Lat, accommodation around Hoa Binh, Phan Boi Chau, and Bui Thi Xuan is convenient for a short stay. Friends planning to explore the city on foot at night should choose somewhere reasonably close to Da Lat Market.
Families traveling by car should ask about parking and road access. Some hotels are located along steep roads or narrow lanes.
- 3:30 PM-6 PM
Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square
Keep your first afternoon in Da Lat around the city center. Walk beside Xuan Huong Lake, continue to Lam Vien Square, and find a nearby cafe.
Save the countryside for tomorrow; you've just come through the mountains. Da Lat is noticeably cooler than Nha Trang. A light jacket and long pants are useful for an evening walk.

- 7 PM-9 PM
Da Lat Market
In the evening, have something warm for dinner and explore the market area. Choose food stalls with clearly displayed prices. Ask about the cost before ordering food or paying for photography services.
Overnight in Da Lat.

Day 3: Datanla Waterfall, Tuyen Lam Lake, central Da Lat
This is your only full day in Da Lat, so choose attractions that are relatively close to one another rather than driving back and forth across the city.
- 7 AM-8 AM
Breakfast
One place to consider is the banh mi xiu mai shop at 26 Hoang Dieu Street. It opens around 6-10 AM, and in 2026 a serving costs about VND 10,000-20,000 per person. Confirm current prices when you visit.
The dish consists of crispy Vietnamese bread served with a bowl of hot meatballs in broth. It works particularly well on a cool Da Lat morning.
- 8:30 AM-11 AM
Datanla Waterfall
Datanla Waterfall lies along the Prenn Pass direction, roughly 5-6 km from central Da Lat. In 2026, the entrance ticket for Waterfall 1 is VND 80,000 per adult, excluding separately priced activities.
A round-trip alpine coaster ticket for Waterfall 3 is VND 250,000 per adult, including the relevant sightseeing access. Visitor admission generally operates around 7:30 AM-4:30 PM, depending on the activity.
Families with children should check height restrictions before buying tickets for any rides. Visitors who don't want to use the alpine coaster can choose an appropriate sightseeing option instead.

- 11:30 AM-3 PM
Tuyen Lam Lake
From Datanla, continue toward Tuyen Lam Lake. Choose somewhere for lunch or coffee near the water, then spend time enjoying the surroundings.
The area is known for pine forests, lakeside scenery, and resorts spread around the hills. Pick a few stops around the lake, since some are far apart and require additional driving.

- 3:30 PM-6 PM
Return to central Da Lat
Head back to your hotel for a rest, or stop at a cafe near Xuan Huong Lake. If it rains, reduce your outdoor plans.
A relaxed afternoon indoors is a better choice than trying to travel along steep roads during heavy rain. Have dinner at your own pace and spend your second night in Da Lat.
Day 4: breakfast, Da Lat Market, Lien Khuong Airport
Keep your final morning light.
- 7 AM-9 AM
Breakfast and souvenirs
Have breakfast and buy a few local products if you want souvenirs. You could visit Banh Can Le at 27/44 Yersin Street. Located down a small lane, the restaurant serves Da Lat-style mini rice pancakes with fillings such as eggs, meat, and seafood.
Opening hours can vary, so check before heading there.
- 9 AM-11 AM
Check out, head to the airport
Return to your hotel, organize your luggage, and check out. Allow approximately 40-60 minutes to reach Lien Khuong Airport from central Da Lat, with extra time for possible delays.
For a domestic flight, arrive early enough to meet your airline's check-in requirements. An afternoon departure is usually easier than an early-morning flight, especially if you don't want to leave your hotel before sunrise.
Nha Trang and Da Lat itinerary: 5 days, 4 nights
This is a more balanced itinerary for first-time visitors, particularly families and groups carrying luggage. You'll spend two nights in Nha Trang and two nights in Da Lat, changing hotels only once.
Day 1: Cam Ranh, Nha Trang city, Tran Phu Beach
Keep the first day relaxed.
- 9 AM-12 PM: Arrive at the airport and travel to Nha Trang.
- 12 PM-2 PM: Have lunch and check in.
- 3:30 PM-5:30 PM: Swim or walk along Tran Phu Beach.
- 6:30 PM-9 PM: Have dinner and explore the city center.
Choose one hotel close to the beach and stay there for both nights. Moving to a different hotel in Bai Dai or Cam Ranh after just one night adds unnecessary checkout, luggage storage, and transportation time.
Day 2: a full day in Nha Trang
You have two main options for your second day. Choose one rather than trying to combine them.
Option A: VinWonders Nha Trang
For families with children and groups who like theme parks

Photo: Martin Lewison
This works well for families with children and groups who enjoy amusement parks, water parks, and live entertainment. Set aside most of the day for the park on Hon Tre Island. VinWonders ticket prices for 2026:
- Standard ticket for visitors 140 cm tall or above: VND 1,050,000.
- Children from 100 cm to under 140 cm tall: VND 800,000.
- Children under 100 cm: free admission.
Standard tickets include round-trip cable car transportation by whichever transport is operating, and activities covered by the ticket category; the Vinpearl cable car is suspended from October 26 to November 10, 2026, with speedboats running instead, and no schedule is confirmed after that, so ask the operator. Some special experiences may require additional payment.
Arrive in the morning to make the most of your visit. Paying for a full-day ticket and arriving halfway through the afternoon is poor value.
Option B: Beaches and islands in Nha Trang Bay
For couples and friends who prefer boats and swimming

Photo: Tour Đảo Nha Trang
This is better for couples who enjoy the sea and friends who prefer swimming or boat trips over amusement parks. You can book a tour departing from Nha Trang Tourist Port at 388 Vo Thi Sau Street, Nam Nha Trang Ward (the former Vinh Truong area).
When comparing tours, check four details: the actual departure pier, which stops allow swimming or snorkeling, whether lunch is included, and any charges not covered by the quoted price. Not every tour promoted as a "three-island tour" includes three islands where passengers can go ashore.
Some itineraries combine a swimming stop, a sightseeing location, and a lunch venue, each with different arrangements. If you want to snorkel or dive, choose an operator with appropriate equipment and qualified guidance.
Do not stand on coral or swim outside areas where visitors are permitted; swimming and diving in the waters around Hon Mun have been suspended since June 2022 to let the coral recover, so ask which area is allowed before you book. Sea conditions determine whether boat trips can operate.
When authorities or operators suspend services because of strong winds, large waves, or dangerous weather, switch to sightseeing in the city rather than looking for another boat willing to go out.
Evening of day 2
Have seafood or return to central Nha Trang for a casual evening. Pack your luggage before going to bed, as you'll be heading to Da Lat the following morning.
Day 3: Nha Trang, Da Lat, Xuan Huong Lake
- 7 AM: Breakfast and hotel checkout.
- 8-9 AM: Board your pre-booked bus to Da Lat.
- 12-2 PM: Arrive in Da Lat, have lunch, and check in.
- 3:30-6 PM: Walk around Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square.
- 7-9 PM: Dinner and an evening walk around the market.
Avoid choosing a very late departure. Leaving Nha Trang around 3-4 PM could mean arriving in Da Lat after dark, particularly if traffic is delayed by road maintenance or weather. Khanh Le Pass is also restricted from 6 PM to 5 AM.
You'll also lose an afternoon that could otherwise be spent exploring the city.
Day 4: Datanla Waterfall, Tuyen Lam Lake, Da Lat cafes
Follow the same general route as Day 3 of the four-day itinerary. Visit Datanla in the morning, then head toward Tuyen Lam Lake for lunch and the early afternoon.
Return to central Da Lat around 3 PM for a rest, coffee, or a walk. Friends interested in photography can spend more time by the lake and among the pine trees.
Families with children should choose fewer stops and prioritize places with accessible restrooms, somewhere to sit, and convenient food options. In the evening, consider a barbecue restaurant or a Vietnamese hotpot.
Choose somewhere reasonably close to your accommodation. Driving across the city late at night just for one meal isn't necessary on a short trip.
Day 5: Da Lat, breakfast, Lien Khuong Airport
Spend the morning around the market, or have banh can or banh mi xiu mai for breakfast. If your flight departs late in the afternoon, you may have another hour or two for a cafe near the center.
Avoid distant attractions such as Langbiang or Cau Dat on your departure day. Before checking out, confirm your airport transfer and the time you need to be at the airline's check-in counter.
How to travel from Nha Trang to Da Lat
The journey between Nha Trang and Da Lat is mainly made by road. There is no direct passenger train between the cities and no regular nonstop flight for this short route.
National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass is the usual road connection. It offers mountain scenery but includes numerous bends, steep sections, and areas where visibility can be reduced.
Phuong Trang (FUTA Bus Lines)
VND 210,000 per person, one way

Photo: Diane Selwyn
From September 20, 2026, Phuong Trang has run KimLong 99 - N29 premium seated buses on the Da Lat-Nha Trang route. The fare is VND 210,000 per person, one way.
This is one of the first options worth checking if you're traveling alone or as a couple. Look up the actual departure times through FUTA Bus Lines, choose a service that suits your itinerary, and confirm the boarding location.
Don't assume every service collects passengers directly from their hotels. Some departures require boarding at an office or using a separate shuttle.
Cuc Tung Limousine
From VND 210,000 per person, one way
In 2026, Cuc Tung Limousine sells the Nha Trang-Da Lat route from VND 210,000 per person, one way. The displayed Nha Trang departure schedule included services between approximately 6:30 AM and 4 PM, with a typical journey of around four hours.
One pickup location in Nha Trang is the company's office at 198 Ngo Gia Tu Street. The Da Lat office is at 1 To Hien Thanh Street.
Confirm the exact boarding and drop-off points shown on your ticket rather than relying only on office addresses. Shuttle arrangements and roadside stops may differ between services.
Private car with driver
For families of four and groups with luggage
A private car may be worth considering for families of four, groups traveling with older relatives, or anyone carrying several large suitcases. The advantage is door-to-door transport without needing to assemble at a bus office.
You can also arrange a departure time that works for the group. When requesting a quote, provide the number of passengers, luggage quantity, pickup address, and destination.
Ask for the total one-way price, including clarification of tolls, fuel, and any additional charges. Don't compare a private-car quote with the price of a single bus ticket.
First calculate the total bus fares for your group, then add taxis to the departure point and from the drop-off location to your hotel. In some cases, the difference may be smaller than expected.
Should you ride a motorbike over Khanh Le Pass?
Don't choose a motorbike simply because you want photos of the mountain pass. The route has many bends and steep sections. Rain and fog can substantially reduce visibility.
Travelers without mountain-riding experience, and families with children, should choose a car or bus. If you're driving yourself, check the road conditions, brakes, tires, and weather forecast before departure.
Never stop at a blind bend, beside a steep drop, or in an area marked with falling-rock warnings.
What is the best month to visit Nha Trang and Da Lat?
March and April are the two months to prioritize for a combined Nha Trang and Da Lat holiday.
Nha Trang usually has plenty of sunshine and less rain than during the autumn and early-winter period.
Da Lat is generally in a relatively dry part of the year, making outdoor sightseeing and mountain-road travel more convenient. However, the two cities have different climates. A great month for swimming in Nha Trang isn't necessarily the driest month in Da Lat.
| Months | Nha Trang | Da Lat | Overall suitability |
|---|---|---|---|
| January-February | Rain decreases, but rough seas are still possible | Dry season, chilly mornings and evenings | Good, with sea-condition checks |
| March-April | Sunny, generally favorable for beaches | Mild, with relatively little rain | Best overall choice |
| May-June | Hot and suitable for beach holidays | Rainy season begins | Good with backup plans |
| July-August | Many days suitable for beach activities | More frequent rainfall | Better for flexible travelers |
| September-October | Rainfall increases | Rainy season | Not the preferred period |
| November | Heavy rain can occur | Rain gradually decreases | Extra attention to mountain roads |
| December | Rough seas are possible | Cooler, beginning of the dry season | Better for relaxation than guaranteed beach activities |
March and April: the best balance
If you can choose your holiday dates freely, start by looking at March and April. Mornings can be spent swimming or exploring Nha Trang.
When you travel to Da Lat, the weather is generally more favorable for outdoor attractions than during the wettest months. April is warmer along the coast, so plan longer outdoor activities for early morning or after 3:30 PM.
June to August: good beach season, but rainier in Da Lat
These months are popular for family holidays. Nha Trang often has favorable periods for beach activities, while Da Lat experiences more afternoon showers.
In Da Lat, schedule outdoor attractions for the morning whenever possible and leave afternoons open for cafes or indoor sightseeing. Rain in the city doesn't automatically mean the entire mountain road is unsafe, but you should check warnings for the exact route you're using.
October and November: choose carefully
Nha Trang enters a wetter period, while mountain-road travel may be affected by heavy rain or landslides. On a four-day trip, losing even one day to road closures can significantly change your plans.
How much does a Nha Trang and Da Lat trip cost?
Your total budget depends heavily on flights, accommodation, and whether you choose major paid attractions. The following figures are planning estimates for 2026, calculated per adult, assuming two people share a double room and use an intercity bus or limousine service. They are not official hotel or restaurant prices.
Estimated budget for 4 days and 3 nights
| Expense | Estimated cost per person |
|---|---|
| Accommodation, 3 nights in a shared room | VND 750,000-1,350,000 |
| Food and drinks, 4 days | VND 900,000-1,400,000 |
| Nha Trang-Da Lat bus | VND 210,000-230,000 |
| Local transport and airport transfers | VND 250,000-500,000 |
| Basic sightseeing admission | VND 100,000-450,000 |
| Estimated total | VND 2,210,000-3,930,000 |
A reasonable target is approximately VND 2.2-4 million per person, excluding flights, shopping, and premium activities. This budget assumes mid-range accommodation, moderate dining expenses, and attractions that don't require expensive admission tickets.
Estimated budget for 5 days and 4 nights
| Expense | Estimated cost per person |
|---|---|
| Accommodation, 4 nights in a shared room | VND 900,000-1,600,000 |
| Food and drinks, 5 days | VND 1,200,000-1,900,000 |
| Nha Trang-Da Lat bus | VND 210,000-230,000 |
| Local transport and airport transfers | VND 350,000-650,000 |
| Basic sightseeing admission | VND 200,000-700,000 |
| Estimated total | VND 2,860,000-5,080,000 |
For five days and four nights, budget approximately VND 2.9-5.1 million per person, excluding flights. The sightseeing allowance in this table does not include a full-day ticket to VinWonders Nha Trang.
If you choose that attraction, add the relevant ticket price. The published standard adult ticket for 2026 is VND 1,050,000. Island tours, diving, private transport, and other higher-priced activities should also be budgeted separately.
How to save money without missing the best experiences
The easiest savings often come from choosing hotels in practical locations. In Nha Trang, staying near the center lets you walk to the beach and reduces the number of taxi journeys.
In Da Lat, a hotel close to Hoa Binh or the market is convenient for evening meals and sightseeing. There's little reason to rent a vehicle simply to travel a few hundred meters between central attractions.
Groups of four should also compare the price of a private car with combined bus fares and taxi transfers. A private car won't always be cheaper, but sometimes the difference is relatively small.
Finally, skip the idea of a major paid attraction every day. Combining the coast and the highlands already gives you two very different landscapes. A relaxed day at the beach or around Da Lat's lake can be just as worthwhile as another paid attraction.
Where to stay in Nha Trang and Da Lat
Nha Trang: stay central and close to the beach
For a stay of one or two nights, the areas around Tran Phu, Hung Vuong, Nguyen Thien Thuat, and the streets connecting to the beach are convenient. You can walk to breakfast, reach the waterfront easily, and arrange taxis to Po Nagar Cham Towers or the tourist port on Vo Thi Sau Street.
Beachfront hotels may cost more than accommodation on streets farther inland. If you plan to spend most of the day exploring, a room with a direct sea view isn't essential.
Resorts farther from the center are better suited to holidays where you intend to stay in one place. When you're combining Nha Trang with Da Lat, staying at a distant resort may add unnecessary travel time and taxi costs.
Da Lat: choose somewhere walkable
The areas around Hoa Binh, Phan Boi Chau, Bui Thi Xuan, and Xuan Huong Lake are practical for a two-night stay. You'll have dining options nearby and can return to your hotel easily after visiting attractions outside the city.

Photo: Tuong Lam Photos
Hillside guesthouses and homestays can be quieter and more scenic, but you should check the access road, gradient, parking, and actual distance to the center. If you're traveling with older relatives or young children, ask whether the hotel has an elevator and which floor your room will be on.
Nha Trang and Da Lat travel tips for different groups
Couples
Four or five days, with fewer attractions
Couples with four days off can choose one night in Nha Trang and two in Da Lat. Focus on an afternoon by the sea, a day exploring mountain scenery, and enough free time for dinner and evening walks.
With five days, add another night in Nha Trang for a full beach day. This is much more comfortable than constantly moving between attractions.
Groups of friends
Five days works best
For groups of four to six, five days and four nights is a sensible choice. Spend your second day in Nha Trang on a shared activity such as VinWonders or an island tour.
In Da Lat, consider arranging a vehicle for a route connecting Datanla, Tuyen Lam Lake, and other nearby attractions. Agree on a general food and activity budget before booking.
It becomes difficult to arrange a shared itinerary if one person wants a full-day island tour while another prefers to stay at the hotel.
Families
Prioritize five or six days
Families with children should limit hotel changes and travel through the mountain pass during daylight whenever possible. After arriving by plane, spend the first day resting and enjoying the beach.
On the day you transfer to Da Lat, avoid planning a lengthy sightseeing activity. For families with older members, check the walking distances, steps, and available transport options at places such as Datanla.
Leave some attractions off the itinerary. Sometimes a quiet afternoon at the hotel is more valuable than another sightseeing stop far from the city.
What to check before booking your trip
A smooth Nha Trang and Da Lat itinerary depends mainly on three bookings: flights, accommodation, and the intercity transfer.
Check flights first. Compare the arrival time at Cam Ranh with the departure time from Lien Khuong, then calculate how much usable holiday time remains. A four-day trip won't feel like four days if you arrive late on the first evening and fly home early on the final morning.
Book accommodation according to your chosen night allocation. For a five-day trip, reserve two consecutive nights in Nha Trang followed by two in Da Lat. Check hotel check-in and checkout times, along with cancellation conditions during the rainy season.
Choose intercity transport by schedule, not just fare. A departure around 8-9 AM is generally more useful than a cheaper service late in the afternoon. Confirm the pickup location, drop-off point, luggage rules, and ticket-change policy.
Allow some flexibility. Keep the afternoon after your Nha Trang-Da Lat transfer relatively free. If the bus is delayed, you'll lose a little cafe time rather than an expensive prepaid activity.
Pack for two climates. You'll need lightweight clothes, swimwear, and sun protection in Nha Trang. In Da Lat, bring a jacket, comfortable walking shoes, and warmer layers according to the forecast.
Which Nha Trang and Da Lat itinerary is best?
With five days, choose two nights in Nha Trang and two nights in Da Lat. This gives you the best balance between sightseeing and travel without spending too much of your holiday packing and moving between hotels.
If you only have four days, choose one night in Nha Trang and two nights in Da Lat, provided you can arrive early and depart reasonably late. With six days, add an extra night wherever your interests lie: Nha Trang for beaches and islands, or Da Lat for countryside scenery and relaxation.
March and April are the months to prioritize. Other seasons can still work, but rainy-season trips benefit from flexible bookings and enough time between mountain-road transfers and flights.
The same approach works for other Vietnam trips combining the coast and the mountains: build your itinerary around arrival and departure times first, then decide what to see. If you have an extra day or are traveling with a larger family, spend longer in the destination you enjoy most rather than automatically adding a third city.
FAQ
What is the best month to visit Nha Trang and Da Lat?
March and April generally offer the best balance. Nha Trang has plenty of sunny days, while Da Lat is usually suitable for outdoor sightseeing. February is another option, although you should check sea conditions before booking island tours.
Is four days and three nights enough for Nha Trang and Da Lat?
Yes, if you arrive at Cam Ranh in the morning and depart from Lien Khuong in the afternoon. Spend one night in Nha Trang and two in Da Lat, take a morning bus between them, and limit your itinerary to one main activity per half-day.
Should I visit Nha Trang or Da Lat first?
Start in Nha Trang if you can fly into Cam Ranh and return from Lien Khuong. This lets you enjoy the beach before heading into the mountains and avoids driving back to Nha Trang for your flight. The reverse direction also works if the flight schedules are better.
How much does a five-day Nha Trang and Da Lat trip cost?
A reasonable independent-travel budget for 2026 is approximately VND 2.9 - 5.1 million per person, based on two people sharing a room and using intercity bus or limousine transport. This excludes flights, VinWonders, high-cost tours, and shopping.
How long is the journey from Nha Trang to Da Lat, and should I take a night bus?
The usual road distance is around 134-140 km, and a straight run takes about 3-4 hours in good conditions. Allow 4-5 hours in your actual itinerary, or 5-6 hours or more with roadworks or rain. Daytime transport is generally preferable because it's easier to account for weather, road conditions, and hotel check-in. Khanh Le Pass is restricted from 6 PM to 5 AM, and while repairs continue, confirm the latest traffic situation before departure.
